At our football academy in Gurgaon, we are constantly asking one question: How can we help kids improve faster and smarter?
The answer led us to introduce something truly special — the 2v2 Cup, part of our Small-Sided Series format. And what unfolded was nothing short of electric.
Why 2v2 Football?
Most young players today compete in 5v5 or 7v7 matches. These formats are great, but they do not cover all the bases that a footballer needs to become exceptional. Let's break it down: the average young child often plays only about 6 meaningful minutes across three matches. In those minutes, many barely touch the ball. They pass to the stronger player. They stay in one position. They wait.
That is not how world-class footballers are developed. They not only play 5v5s or 7v7s and beyond, but they also play the 2v2 format.
In a 2v2 football format, everything changes.
Every child is constantly involved. There is no hiding. No fixed positions. No waiting for the “better player” to take over.
Instead, they:
Defend
Dribble
Pass
Shoot
Transition
Make decisions every few seconds
On average, players get 2–3 times more ball contact than in traditional formats. That means more touches. More decisions. More problem-solving. More confidence.
And in football development, touches and decisions per minute are everything.
The Energy Was Unmatched
We introduced the 2v2 Cup for Under-6, Under-8 and Under-10 age groups — and for many families in Gurgaon, this was their first exposure to such a format.
At first, some parents and academies didn’t fully understand the concept. But once the tournament kicked off, everything changed.
The games were fast. Goals were constant. Transitions were rapid. Kids were thinking, reacting, and competing every second.
Parents and coaches were on their feet throughout. The atmosphere was intense, loud and joyful. The energy was unlike any traditional youth football tournament.
Because when kids are fully involved, the excitement multiplies.
An International Concept, Introduced in Gurgaon
This initiative was brought to Gurgaon by our founder, Disha Malhotra Julka, one of the best female football coaches in India and the only woman in the country to hold a UEFA license.
Having trained and studied international development models, Disha understands that producing exceptional, world-class players requires a different approach. Small-sided formats like 2v2 are widely used in Europe to accelerate technical growth, game intelligence and confidence from a young age.
For the first time, this internationally proven football development concept was executed in Gurgaon — and the response was phenomenal.
The Future of Football Development in Gurgaon
At our football academy in Gurgaon, we are not just organising tournaments. We are building thinkers, decision-makers and fearless players.
The 2v2 Cup proved one thing clearly:
When you give kids more responsibility, more touches and more decisions, they rise.
And this is only the beginning.
If you’re looking for a football academy in Gurgaon that prioritises real development over just participation, the Small-Sided Series is where the future begins.
